ESIC issues Circular regarding payment of wages to contractual manpower during lockdown

The Employee’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on May 15, 2020 has decided that contractual, casual and outsourced staffs of Ministries and Departments and other organization of the Government of India are required to stay at home due to precautionary measures taken by the Government of India for preventing the spread of Covid-19, and they should be treated on duty during such period of absence and necessary pay or wages should be paid accordingly. 

However only those Employees would be paid who were deployed on the date of declaration of lockdown. In case of ESIC Hospitals are functioning during the lockdown period being essential services, the payment may be made on the basis of attendance since manpower working in Hospitals are supposed to perform duty during this period. The contractual employees of hospitals shall be considered on duty for payment of wages whose residential areas were sealed as containment zone.
