EPFO grants relief to establishments and factories from levy of penal damages for delay in deposit during lockdown

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on May 15, 2020 has requested all in charge of zones, regional offices and district offices to provide relief to all establishments and factories from levy of penal damages for delay in deposit of dues during lockdown under Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. Many representations were received from establishments regarding difficulties faced during deposit of contributions during lockdown. It is further decided that no proceedings shall be initiated for delay in payment during the lockdown period due to operational and economic hardships.
