The State Government of Bihar on May 12, 2020, has passed Bihar Municipal (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 to further amend the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007.

The act states that the main cultivators’ population in total shall be less than fifty percent as compared to the marginal cultivator workers in all the areas of Bihar. Section 50 which specifies quorum for transaction of business at a meeting of municipality and method of deciding questions has been amended: the  quorum shall be two-fifth (2/5) of the total number of meeting of Councillors, instead of 1/3.

It will extend to the whole of the State of Bihar and it will come into force from the date of its publication in the official gazette.
