The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on April 30, 2020 has issued the draft new policy guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of satellite television channels in India, 2020 to address the challenges from fast evolving broadcasting technology after consultation with various stakeholders. The Ministry had previously issued the Uplinking and Downlinking Policy Guidelines 2011 for private satellite TV channels and teleports.

Any company or an LLP may apply online on broadcast seva on payment of processing fees for setting up a teleport subject to a minimum net worth of an amount as on the closing day of the financial year immediately preceding the year in which the application is made; and the Foreign Direct Investment in the company and LLP in accordance with the FDI policy of the Government of India. The company may also make payment of processing fees online separately for uplinking a news TV channel and uplinking a non-news TV channel.

The Ministry invites the comments and suggestions on the draft new policy guidelines for uplinking and downlinking of television channels from India from all the stakeholders.
