Ministry of Shipping announces monetary compensation to workers to cover the risk of life due to COVID 19

The Ministry of Shipping on April 28, 2020 has decided that all the major ports may grant compensation or ex-gratia in the event of loss of life due to COVID-19 to the dependant members or legal heirs of those who are working in the part. The cause of death from COVID-19 and discharge of Port related duty will have to be verified by the port Chairman while settling claims or disbursement of the compensation.

The followings are the categories:-

 All port employees including Contract Labourers employed directly by the port – Rs. 50 lakhs

 Other Contract Labourers – Rs. 50 lakhs

This compensation is applicable only for the pandemic of COVID-19 and shall be in force upto September 30, 2020.
