The Forest, Environment & Ecology Department of Jammu and Kashmir has published the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Produce Transit Rules, 2020. The rules are applicable to the territory of Jammu and Kashmir and shall come into effect from October 31, 2019.

The government has stated under the Rules that the officials shall establish check posts as they deem fit, at places as the official thinks its necessary to check up on the forest produce in transit. The transit of produce can not take place by modes of land, air, or water in case of no permit. The permit shall not be given for the produce extracted from the species that are prohibited.

The permit of the transit shall specify the quantity of the forest produce. Further, the fees are to be levied for the transit of forest produce. An e-way bill shall be generated while the transit is taking place. To produce the permit, the person shall apply to the Divisional Forest officer along with the prescribed fees. Such application shall be accepted or rejected by the officer and appropriate grounds of rejection shall be specified. An appeal can be filed in case of rejection.

The route of transportation shall be determined by the forest officers and necessary check posts shall be determined by the competent authority as well. All the vehicles shall be checked by the authority and a ‘CHECKED’ mark shall be posted thereon. The property mark shall be obtained with proper registration given by the government.
