Uttarakhand Labour Department relaxes working hours in Factories

The Uttarakhand Labour Department on April 30, 2020, relaxes certain provisions of the Factories Act, 1948 by extending the working hours for optimum utilization of labour in factories.

However, all the factories registered under Factories Act, 1948 will be exempted from the provisions relating to weekly hours, daily hours etc. of adult workers under section 51 (Weekly Hours), section 54 (Daily Hours), section 55 (Intervals for rest) and section 56 (Spread over), subject to the following conditions:

(i) There should be two shifts of 11-11 hours and should have 1 hour interval between these two shifts. Overtime will be maximum 3 hours for which employees should be given overtime wages.

(ii) The workers working in these 2 shifts will work for only 6 days and the limit of overtime will be 18 hours in a weak.

(iii) This exemption will be available to those shops and establishments to whom Central Government has given permission and they will also follow the norms for sanitization and social distancing.

(iv) This Notification will come into immediate effect and will be effective till 3 months.
