Punjab Labour Department extends the working hours for Factories

The Punjab Labour Department on April 20, 2020, extends the working hours in the factories which are allowed to operate, for optimum utilization of labour by relaxing certain provisions of the Factories Act, 1948.

Therefore, it has been directed that, the total number of hours of work allowed in any day shall be maximum of 12 hours, instead of 9 hours (maximum) as provided under section 54 of factories Act, 1948. It is further directed that spread over shall not exceed 13 hours in a day instead of maximum ten and half hours as provided under section 56 of the Factories Act. For overtime, the workers shall be provided wages at the rate of twice his ordinary rate of wage.

Whereas, all precautionary measures advised from time to time by the Government of India and Government of Punjab for sanitization and social distancing shall be strictly adhered to.

This order will be in force for three months with immediate effect.
