Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission reduces rate of Late Payment Surcharge

The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) on April 05, specifies a reduced rate of Late Payment Surcharge to be charged by the generating companies and the transmission licensees during the period of March 24, 2020 to June 30, 2020 on account of the unprecedented situation arising due to restrictions placed by the Central Government to contain COVID-19.

Whereas, MPERC issues directions in public interest that, the MERC may specify a reduced rate of Late Payment Surcharge (LPS) for payments which become delayed beyond a period of 45 days (from the date of presentation of the bill) during the period from March 24, 2020 to June 30, 2020 to generating companies and licensees treating the restrictions placed by the Central Government to contain COVID-19 as an event of force majeure. Further, the reduced LPS will be applicable for such delayed payments till June 30, 2020.

Further, generating companies and transmission licensees may claim the relief from its obligations regarding the rate at which LPS is to be paid, as per the force majeure provisions.
