FSSAI had noticed that specially mustard oil is being adulterated with rice bran oil and according to the report, around 33% samples of mustard oil have been found to have presence of oryzonal indicating adulteration of mustard oil with rice bran oil.

Thus, all the Food Safety Commissioners of States and Union Territories (UTs) are advised to carry out enforcement activities to collect samples of mustard oil of various brands available in the market. After collecting, it needs to be tested including the presence of oryzonal in the oil. An appropriate action shall be taken against the defaulters in case of adulteration under the FSS Act, Rules and Regulations.
