The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on February 25, 2020, publishes the Black scented Rice Grading and Marking Rules, 2020 and it will come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette

They will apply to the varieties of Black Scented Rice of Oryza sativa L., intended for human consumption.

The Black scented rice shall consist the word “AGMARK”, name of commodity and grade designation which will indicate the quality of varieties of Black scented rice. The quality of raw milled Black scented Rice shall be as per Schedule – II (Page 2).  

Black scented rice shall be packed in new clean and fry jute bags or paper bags or cloth bags or poly woven bags or any bio-degradable packaging materials and it should be free from insect and fungal infestation and shall not impart any toxic substance or undesirable odour or flavor or colour to the product.

The grade designation mark shall be securely affixed to or printed on each package and in addition shall mention the name of the commodity; variety or trade name (optional); grade; lot/batch number; date of packing; crop year (optional); net weight; Best Before__Month_-Year; Maximum retail price (inclusive of all taxes); Name and address of the authorized packer; any other particulars as per law.

The authorised packer shall follow the special conditions for Certificate of Authorisation.
