Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade notifies the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on February 25, 2020, notifies the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020.

Applicability:

Ø  This Quality Control Order will apply to (Toys) Product or material designed or clearly intended, whether or not exclusively, for use in play by children under 14 years of age or any other product as notified by the Central Government;

Ø  Apply to Toys as they are initially received by the children and, in addition, this will apply after a toy is subjected to reasonably foreseeable conditions of normal use and abuse unless specifically noted otherwise.

The toys shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard and will bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Further, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will be the certifying and enforcement authority for the toys.

It will come into force with effect from September 01, 2020.
