Tamil Nadu Government amends the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989

The State Government of Tamil Nadu on January 29, 2020, has made amendment to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

The amendment inserts new Rule 288-A, namely: Notwithstanding anything contained in rule 288, in case where an emergency arises that a State Transport Undertaking cannot procure its own vehicle to run its own service in a nationalized route, the State Transport Undertaking shall be at liberty to run any private vehicle taken on hire on payment of fixed hire charges duly obtaining a permit by an application in Form SCPA (STU) for such vehicle.

The draft amendment will be taken into consideration on or after the expiry of thirty days from the date of publication of this Notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette (January 29, 2020). Objection or suggestion, if any, will be addressed in duplicate to the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home, P&E Department, Secretariat, Chennai-600 009.
