FSSAI issues direction regarding compliance of feed materials for meat and milk producing animals

Commercial Compliance

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on January 27, 2020, issues direction regarding compliance of commercial feeds or feed materials intended for meat and milk producing animals with the relevant BIS standards. FSSAI vide File No. 1-95/Std/Misc/SP(L&C/A)/FSSAI-2015-Pt-1 dated December 10, 2019 had directed that commercial feeds intended for food producing animals should comply with the relevant BIS standards. Recently, FSSAI had received representations from various stakeholders regarding implementation of the direction regarding BIS standards and its certifications.

Thus, it has been decided that commercial feeds intended for cattle shall comply with the BIS specifications for compounded feeds for cattle and shall carry a BIS certification mark on the label of the products.

This direction shall come into effect after six months from the date of issue and shall supersede the earlier direction dated December 10, 2019.
