Government of Kerala proposes to revise the minimum rates of wages for Plantation Sector

The State Government of Kerala on January 23, 2020, proposes to revise the minimum rates of wages for the classes of employees employed in Plantation Sector.

The Plantation Sector are:

 Tea Plantations: Time rated work, Piece rate work, Supervisors & Selected Special Categories, Other Special Categories, Creche Attendant

 Rubber Plantations:

i. Time rate work;

ii. The classification of rubber fields and standard output; For the purpose of computation of annual yield, the yield obtained from normal tapping for 6 days per week will alone be taken into account; For the purpose of classification of fields, one hundred tapping trees will be reckoned as one acre

iii. The over kilo rate for latex in Class I, II and III rubber fields will be Rs. 5.25 per Kilogram and that for Class IV rubber fields it will be Rs. 7.25 per Kg.

iv. The over kilo rate for scrap will be Rs. 1.60 per kg.

v. The guaranteed time rate shall be Rs. 230.41 per day.

vi. Tappers in Rubber Plantations shall be paid piece rates at the following rates over and above the guaranteed time rates.

vii. Supervisors and Selected Special Categories

viii. Other Special Categories

ix. Creche Attendants

 Coffee Plantations: Time Rated Work, Piece Rated Work, Supervisors and Selected Special Categories, Other Special Categories, Creche Attendants

 Cardamom Plantations: Time Rated Work, Supervisors and Selected Special Categories (For pure Cardamom estates only), Other Special Categories, Creche Attendants

 General (Applicable to all Crops):

i. Fitment;

ii. Job Differential;

iii. Service Weightage: Daily rated Workers, Monthly rated Workers 

iv. Dearness Allowances: The workers shall eligible for Dearness Allowance 

v. Employment Protection

vi. Protection of Higher Wages: If the employees in any establishment are in receipt of wages higher than the rates said above, they shall continue to receive such higher wages.

vii. The rates of wages will come into force from January 01, 2019.

viii. The arrears to be paid under this notification shall be paid on or before March 31, 2020.

The proposal will be taken up for consideration on or after two months from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette and that the objections and suggestions, if any, that may be received from any persons with respect to the said proposals on or before the specified above, will be considered by the Government.  All objections and suggestions shall be addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Labour and Skills (E) Department, Government Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 001.
