MoHFW notifies amendments in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on January 27, 2020, notifies amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The amendments are made in the Table, where serial number 12 has been inserted, namely:-

“Oxytocin and its formulation in any name or manner except Oxytocin reference standards imported exclusively for the purpose of test and analysis.”

The use of drug Oxytocin and its formulation in any name or manner involves certain risk to human beings and animals and thus the Central Government has prohibited the import of the said drugs in public interest. The import of Oxytocin reference standards is necessary exclusively for the purpose of examination, test or analysis before carrying out commercial manufacturing.
