Ministry of Road Transport and Highways publishes the Central Motor Vehicles (First Amendment) Rules, 2020

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on January 17, 2020 has published the Central Motor Vehicles (First Amendment) Rules, 2020 to further amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Some of the major amendments in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 are as under:

Ø  Under Rule 115B(1) which specifies the Mass emission standards for Compressed Natural Gas Driven Vehicles, after para BB, the following para shall be inserted, namely:

Para BC: O.E. or Converted, Dual Fuel or Dedicated Dual Fuel (for vehicles GVW below 3.5 T), Vehicles having Diesel with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (Bio-CNG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as dual fuel.

Ø  Rule 115-I has been inserted, namely: Mass emission standards for Di-Methyl Ether (DME or D100) Vehicles

Ø  ANNEXURE IV-ZB has been inserted: Technical Specifications of the Reference Fuel M85

Ø  ANNEXURE IV-ZC has been inserted: Technical specifications of the reference fuel DME or D100

They will come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
