The Ministry of Steel on December 27, 2019, has published the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Fourth Order, 2019.

Every steel and steel product specified in this Order shall conform to the corresponding Indian standards with effect from the dates specified in this Order.

Further, Tin plate and tin free cans of capacity less than 50 litre which are to be closed by soldering or crimping shall be bearing Standard Mark under a license issued by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Additionally, it shall be accompanied with the test certificate carrying BIS license number of input material. Every steel and steel products shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the BIS.

The BIS shall be the certifying and enforcing authority in respect of the steel and steel products, goods and articles specified in this order. Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

It will come into force on the date as decided by Ministry of Steel and it will apply to steel and steel products except steel and steel products for export which conform to any other specification required by a foreign buyer.
