The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on December 09, 2019, issues Direction regarding deletion of Total Soluble Solid (TSS) content from sub-regulations 2.3.9 (Thermally Processed Fruit Nectars), 2.3.10 (Thermally Processed Fruit Beverages/Fruit Drink/Ready to Serve Fruit Beverages), 2.3.30 (Carbonated Fruit beverages or Fruit Drinks) of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 to facilitate reduction of sugar. The draft FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018 invites comments and suggestions from stakeholders.

FSSAI had received several representations from the stakeholders for deletion of TSS and the values to facilitate reduction of sugar as even if they are ready with their reduced sugar formulations, they are not able to launch such products merely because the publication of final Gazette notification of the above-mentioned regulations is still pending. Thus, it has been decided to deletion of TSS content from the above mentioned sub-regulations with immediate effect till the issuance of final Notification in this regard.
