FSSAI issues Direction regarding demand of additional or irrelevant documents by the licensing authorities

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on November 22, 2019, issues Direction to ensure that the licensing authorities should avoid demanding of additional or irrelevant documents from Food Business Operators (FBO) as it causes inconvenience and harassment of FBOs and delays the processing of applications. 

Following are the directions issued by FSSAI: -

1. The list of documents required for each kind of business are already available on the Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) and licensing authorities may limit their queries only to those documents.

2. In case if any additional documents are considered essential, reasons must be recorded and submitted to the FSC.

3. The application should be properly and scrutinized and all deficiencies in the applications should be raised in one go.

4. In case of auto generated licenses, the licensing authorities shall check those applications to ensure that all documents filed are in order, else a notice should be issued to FBO and further processing undertaken.

5. The Commissioners and Directors are directed to conduct monthly monitoring meetings; and the authorities should ensure strict compliance.
