TNERC publishes Draft amendments to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Supply Code

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) on November 07, 2019, has published the Draft amendments to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Supply Code, to improve the High Tension (HT) or Low Tension (LT) line ratio, facilitate consumers to obtain supply under the ‘Ease of doing business’ programme of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion  (DIPP), and provide choice of supply to other consumers.

Comments has been invited by the general public by December 06, 2019 on the draft amendments. Further, the draft amendment will be taken into consideration after expiry of thirty days from the date of publication of this Notification in the TNERC website (November 07, 2019) and that any objection or suggestion, if any, should be addressed in duplicate to the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, 19-A, Rukmini Lakshmipathy Salai, Egmore, Chennai – 600 008. 

Some of the major amendments is as under:

Regulation 3(1) which specifies the Categories of supply has been substituted.

  Under Regulation 5 (2) which specifies the Miscellaneous Charges:

1) After ii(c)(II), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:

Clause ii(c)(IIA) Where the sanctioned demand is above 112 KW but less than or equal to 150 KW, and the recorded demand exceeds sanctioned demand, the consumer shall pay excess demand charges: at 1% of the charges of electricity supplied upto 150 KW; and at the rate of 20% for every KW or part thereof over and above 150KW of the charges of the electricity supplied.

2) After clause ii(c)(III), as so substituted, the following clause shall be inserted, namely:

Clause ii(c)(IV) Where the recorded demand exceeds 150 KW for the second and subsequent times, the licensee shall issue one month’s notice for conversion of LT service to HT service indicating all relevant charges to be paid for a HT service connection for the level of recorded demand. On payment of charges, the service shall be converted to HT category observing all formalities required to effect a HT service connection.
