TRAI releases recommendations on "Review of Terms and Conditions for registration of Other Service Providers (OSPs)"

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on October 21, 2019, has released recommendations on "Review of terms and conditions for registration of Other Service Providers (OSPs)". 

TRAI has finalized its recommendations by analysing the comments or inputs received from the stakeholders, vide Consultation Paper on 'Review of terms and conditions for registration of Other Service Providers (OSP)' dated March 29, 2019.

The followings are the salient features of the recommendations:

1.Definition of OSP is clarified.

2.The scope of OSP is altered by removing the provisions of: - for captive purposes i.e. Captive Contact Centres,

b.requirement of agreement bank guarantee for sharing of infrastructure between domestic            and international OSP of same company,

c.Requirement of agreement and bank guarantee for availing Work-from Home (WFH)                    facility, and

d.the requirement of provisioner-provided virtual private network (PPVPN).

3.The complete process of registration or intimation shall be through online portal and time            bound.

4.Multiple OSP centres of single company can be registered as single OSP.

5.Internet obtained at one OSP centre can be shared with other OSP centres of same                    company.

6.Contact Centre Service Provider (CCSP) and Hosted Contact Centre Service Provider                    (HCCSP) providing platform as a service are brought under registration and be given 3                 months’ time for registration or license after declaration of the policy by DoT.
