The State Government of Tamil Nadu has revised the minimum rate of wages for the employment in Tobacco Manufactory (Snuff Industry) under the provisions of Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

The Schedule: Employment in Tobacco Manufactory (Snuff Industry)  


Workers attending to all the process of work in the manufacture of snuff (manual)


Workers engaged in stripping and roasting or frying (manual)


Stripping, handling and packing and other miscellaneous works (manual)


For cutting, converting, stripping, roasting frying, grinding and mixing 1kg of tobacco

In addition to the minimum rates of basic wages, the employees will be paid dearness                  allowance.

Where the same work or work of a similar nature is performed, no distinction in the                     payment of wages shall be made as between men and women employees.

Daily wages shall be multiplied by 30.

Wherever the existing wages are higher than the minimum wages fixed herein, the same             shall be continued to be paid.

The Notification shall come into force with effect on and from the date of its publication in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette.
