Government of Tamil Nadu revises the minimum rates of wages for the employment in Cooking Food

The State Government of Tamil Nadu has revised the minimum rate of wages for the employment in Cooking Foodunder the provisions of Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

The Schedule: Employment in Cooking Food


Manager, Asst. manager, Cashier/ Accountant, Clerk, Driver, Attendant/ sweeper/ watchman.


Head Cook, Store Assistant/ Supervisor, Biryani Maker, Sweet And Savoury Maker, Cook, Coffee/ Tea Maker/ Roti/ Dosa Maker, Asst. Cook/ Kitchen Asst./ Vegetable Cutter, Supplier, Cleaners Of All Categories.

Minimum rates of basic wages are classified into:

a.Zone A: all corporations

b.Zone B: All type of municipalities

c.Zone C: Townships, cantonments and town panchayat

d.Zone D: Village panchayats and other areas not coverd under zone A, B, and C.

In addition to the minimum rates of basic wages, the employees will be paid dearness                  allowance.

Where the same work or work of a similar nature is performed, no distinction in the                    payment of wages shall be made as between men and women employees.

Daily wages shall be multiplied by 30. 

Wherever the existing wages are higher than the minimum wages fixed herein, the same            shall be continued to be paid.

The Notification shall come into force with effect on and from the date of its publication in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette.
