The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on September 27, 2019, announces that Regulation 1(2) of the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2018 shall come into force on November 11, 2019.

TRAI had issued the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2018 on December 13, 2018 to provide a framework governing all relevant aspects of Mobile Number Portability (MNP). The MNP allows the subscribers to retain their existing mobile telephone number when they move from one Access Provider to another irrespective of the mobile technology or from one cellular mobile technology to another of the same Access Provider, in a licensed service area.

Further based on the preparedness and additional time required by the Telecom Service Providers and Mobile Number Portability Service Providers to accomplish Acceptance Testing of the processes envisaged under Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2018, the Authority has decided to extend the time for implementation of these regulations from 30th September 2019 to 11th November, 2019.
