FSSAI clarifies Order mandating food safety audit of Food Businesses holding Central license

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on September 24, 2019, give clarifications on Order dated August 13, 2019 mandating food safety audit of Food Businesses holding Central License and falling under high risk categories of food businesses under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Safety Auditing) Regulations, 2018.

FSSAI has clarified that the Order shall be effective from the date of issue that is August 13, 2019. However the food business directed for mandatory audits should get the first audit of their premises by December 31, 2019. The complete chain starting from manufacturing, transport, storage etc. must follow good hygienic practices. However, in the initial stage only the food businesses involved in manufacturing and processing sector under the product categories specified in the above mentioned Order dated August 13, 2019 should get their premises mandatorily audited. It is further clarified that the head offices holding Central License where no food related activities are being done are not mandated for audits.
