The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on September 17, 2019, releases a preliminary Draft Code on Security Security, 2019 by amalgamating, simplifying and rationalizing the relevant provisions of eight existing Central Labour Acts. The objective of the Code on Security Security, 2019 is to amend and consolidate the laws relating to social security of the workers and the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It will extend to the whole of India.

The Code on Security Security, 2019 will repeal the following enactments:

1.       The Employees‘ Compensation Act, 1923;

2.       The Employees‘ State Insurance Act, 1948;

3.       The Employees‘ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952;

4.       The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961;

5.       The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972;

6.       The Cine Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1981;

7.       The Building and Other Construction Workers Cess Act, 1996;

8.       The Unorganized Workers‘ Social Security Act, 2008.

MoLE invites suggestions or comments or inputs from all concerned stakeholders or other members of the public on the preliminary draft Code on Social Security, 2019 by October 25, 2019.
