The State Government of Goa on September 17, 2019 has published the Goa Marine Fishing Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2019, to further amend the Goa, Daman and Diu Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1980.

Some of the major amendments in the Goa, Daman and Diu Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1980, are as under:

Ø  Under Section 11 which specifies the Cancellation, suspension and amendment of licences, after sub-section (1), the following sub-sections shall be inserted, namely:

(i)      Sub-section (1A): The holder of a licence shall within a period of fifteen days from the date of suspension or cancellation, surrender such licence to the Authorised officer.

(ii)    Sub-section (1B): once the suspension period expires the holder of licence shall collect such licence from the Authorised Officer.

Ø  Insertion on new sections, namely:

(i)                  Section 8A: Erection of fishing stakes and registration of net;

(ii)                Section 17A: Notifying the fish landing centre for landing and berthing of the fishing vessel;

(iii)               Section 18A: Prohibition on destruction of fish by explosives in inland waters and on coast.

It shall come into force on such date as the Government may by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint
