DGFT allows export of onions subject to Minimum Export Price

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on September 13, 2019, has made amendment in Para-2 of Notification No. 48/2015-2020 dated February 02, 2018 relating to export of onion.

The amended para 2 is as under:

‘Export of onion for the item description at Serial Number 51 and 52 of Chapter 7 of Schedule 2 of ITC (HS) classification of Export and Import Items shall be permitted only on Letter of Credit (LC) subject to a Minimum Export Price (MEP) of US$ 850 F.O.B per Metric Ton till further orders.’

Chapter 7 of Schedule 2 of ITC (HS) specifies the Edible Vegetables and Certain Roots and Tubers:

Ø  Item description at Serial number 51: Onion (all varieties expect Bangalore rose onions and Krishnapuram onions) excluding cut, sliced or broken in powder form;

Ø  Item description at Serial Number 52: Bangalore rose onions and Krishnapuram onions excluding cut, sliced or broken in powder form

Effect of this Notification: Export of all varieties of onions, will be allowed only on LC subject to MEP.
