The draft Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2019

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on August 28, 2019, have published a draft Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2019 to further amend the FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018.

The amendments made in the FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018 are:

1. In Regulation 4(1) relating to “Compliance with Standards on Micronutrient Content in Fortified Foods”, the sub-regulation shall be substituted, namely:-

“Any manufacturer who fortifies any food shall ensure that the declared value of micronutrients on label of such fortified food shall fall within the levels (minimum-maximum) specified in Schedule-I during the declared shelf life of the products.”

2. After Regulations 7(3) relating to “Packaging and Labelling Requirements”, the following provision shall be inserted, namely:

“Provided that tolerance of +/- 10 percent of the declared value of micronutrients on the label may be allowed for the purposes of compliance and analysis at any point in time within declared shelf life of the product.”

All the persons likely to be affected thereby are requested for objections or suggestions within thirty days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette in which this notification is published are made available to the public. The objections or suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Food and Drug Administration Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi-110002, or may be sent at [email protected]
