FSSAI requests FBOs to dispose off the used cooking oil

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on August 09, 2019, with the approval of competent authority has issued letter regarding disposal and collection of Used Cooking Oil (UCO) in reference to an Order dated January 30, 2019 conveying the Food Business Operators (FBOs) whose consumption of edible oils for frying is more than 50 litres per day have to maintain the usage records and would dispose the used cooking oil to agencies authorized by the FSSAI or Commissioner of Food Safety of states and UTs. 

The Food Safety Commissioners of all State or UTs are requested to ensure that all FBOs shall maintain the usage record and dispose off their Used Cooking Oil to authorized collection agencies or aggretors of enrolled Biodiesel Manufacturers only. It is also requested to conduct periodic inspection with a view to ensure that Biodiesel Manufacturers utilize the used cooking oil for manufacture of Biodiesel only and it should not enter into the food chain.
