FSSAI publishes Draft FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2019

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on July 26, 2019, has published the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2019, to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 and for the information of all persons likely to be affected thereby.

The Draft regulations will be taken into consideration after the expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing this notification are made available to the public that is July 30, 2019.

Objections or suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi- 110002 or sent on email at [email protected].

Some of the major amendments in the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, are as under:

Ø  Regulations and sub-regulations that are substituted, namely:

a)      In Regulation 2.4 which talks about Cereals and Cereal Products:

b)      Sub-regulation 2.4.2 (1) which talks about Maida (Refined Wheat flour)

c)       Sub-regulation 2.4.3 which talks about Semolina (Suji or Rawa)

d)      Sub-regulation 2.4.6(4) which talks about JOWAR (Sorghum grains)

e)      In Sub-regulation 2.4.15 which talks about Bakery Products, Clauses (1) Biscuit and clause (2) Bread and Bread-Type Products has been substituted

f)       Sub-regulation 2.4.17 which talks about Pearl Millet Flour

g)      Sub-regulation 2.4.18 which talks about Sorghum Flour

h)      In Sub-regulation 2.9.8 which talks about Cumin (Zeera, Kalonji), clauses (1) Cumin (Safed Zeera) whole and (2) Cumin (Safed Zeera) powder has been substituted

Ø  Insertion of Sub-regulations and Table in Appendix B, namely:

a)      After sub-regulation 2.4.34, following sub-regulation has been inserted, namely:

Sub-regulation: 2.4.35 Breakfast Cereal

b)      After sub-regulation 2.9.39, following sub-regulation has been inserted, namely:

Sub-regulation: 2.9.40 DRIED THYME

c)       In Appendix B, after table 7, following table shall be inserted, namely:

1)      Table 7A: Microbiological Standards of Eggs and Egg Products – Process Hygiene Criteria

2)      Table 7B: Microbiological Standards of Eggs and Egg ProductsFood Safety Criteria
