West Bengal Government specifies minimum rates of wages in the employment of sweeping and cleaning

The West Bengal Labour Commissioner specifies the minimum rate of wage in the employment of sweeping and cleaning excluding activities prohibited under the Employment of Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines (prohibition) Act, 1993 in the state of West Bengal, which will be effective for a period from July 01, 2019 to December 31, 2019.

Zone A

Unskilled

Rs. 8177.00

Rs. 7175.00

Semi-skilled

Rs. 8995.00

Rs. 7892.00

Skilled

Rs. 9895.00

Rs. 8681.00

The classification of employees is as follows:

 Unskilled workers: Sweeper, Sweeper Labour, Helper, Work Assistant, Door to door cleaner, drain mazdoor, Tractor Labour, Garbage cleaner or mazdoor, Conservancy, Scavengers, Latrine cleaner, drain or garbage coolie, SafaiKarmachari whose work involves sweeping, cleaning and carrying operation;

 Semi-skilled workers: Auto van driver, night soil cleaner-mechanical, Cesspool labour, Lorry sarday conservancy supervisor, ward sardar;

 Skilled workers: Garbage tractor driver, conservancy-in-charge, drainage or sewage or engineering mazdoor, whose work involves skill or competence and who is capble of handling machines and chemicals in a modern cleaning process.
