FSSAI requests all the Food Business Operators to discontinue the use of staple pins on food packets

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on July 01, 2019, have requested all the Food Business Operators (FBOs) to discontinue the use of staple pins on food packets. It has been observed by FSSAI that there are many FBOs who are engaged in retail business are using staple pins to pack food items in plastic and paper bags instead of sealing them with a thermal units or cello adhesive tapes. 

FSSAI has notified to discourage the use of staple pins to pack food items in plastic and paper bags by creating awareness among business, especially unorganized food business operators and consumers on its harmful effects. The metallic pins used in food packages are a physical hazard in food and pose a risk to consumer health and food safety. All commissioners of food safety of all states and UTs are requested to initiate a campaign for generating awareness amongst all stakeholders to discourage the use of stapling and staple pins for packing processed and unprocessed food articles.
