UGC implements the Internal Committee for students with disabilities in Universities and Colleges

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on June 11, 2019, has requested all the universities and affiliated colleges to implement the Internal Committee for students with disabilities.

The UGC has decided to take the following actions to be taken by the institutions immediately:

1. Adoption and implementation of Harmonised Guidelines and Space Standards for Barrier free Built Environment for persons with Disability and Elderly Persons, developed in February, 2016 by Ministry of Urban Development, to make the existing buildings barrier free and accessible for persons with Disabilities and the aforesaid guidelines shall also be followed during approval of the plan and detailed project report in cases of new buildings.

2. To form an Internal Committee comprising teachers, staff, students and parents for taking care of day to day needs of differently able persons as well as for implementation of the schemes existing and to be devised in future.

3. To report the proper functioning of Equal opportunity Cell in the colleges, university and other higher education institutions.

All the universities and affiliated colleges are requested to implement the above mentioned recommendations and furnish the action taken report to UGC at [email protected] within one month from the date of issuance of this letter.
