MPCB notifies all the institutions to file an application for the grant of Authorization under the BWM Rules 2016

The Meghalaya Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on June 06, 2019, has issued a Notice to notify all the institutions to make an application in Form II to MSPCB for the grant of authorization under the Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016 within 30 days.

All the persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle biomedical waste (BMW) in any form including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, dispensaries, veterinary institutions, animal houses, pathological laboratories, blood banks, ayush hospitals, clinical establishments, research or educational institutions, health camps, medical or surgical camps, vaccination camps, blood donations camp, first aid rooms of schools, forensic laboratories and research labs, irrespective of their size or number of patients or quantity of BMW generation require to make an application in Form II to MSPCB for the grant of authorization under the Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016.

The MSPCB notifies all the concerned persons or institutions who have not complied as per the requirement of the Rules to do so within one month from that date of publication of this Notice. It is also notified that the failure to comply with the provisions will attract penal action as per the provisions of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. It also includes imprisonment for a period of 5 years or a fine of one lakh rupees or both.
