CBIC increases the tariff rate of customs duty on lentils, boric acid and laboratory reagents

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on June 15, 2019, has increased the increase the tariff rate of customs duty on lentils, boric acid and laboratory reagents by amending First schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.

Under the First Schedule to the said Customs Tariff Act, 1975:

(1)    In Chapter 7 which specifies the Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers, for the entry in column (4) occurring against tariff item 0713 40 00, the entry “50%” shall be substituted;

(2)    In Chapter 28 which specifies the Inorganic chemicals, organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals, of radioactive elements or of isotopes, for the entry in column (4) occurring against tariff item 2810 00 20, the entry “27.5%” shall be substituted;

(3)    In Chapter 38 which specifies Miscellaneous chemical products, for the entry in column (4) occurring against tariff item 3822 00 90, the entry “30%” shall be substituted.
