Relaxation of the restrictive features for M2M connections and extension of timelines for making the existing M2M connections compliant to the DoT's M2M instructions

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) on May 30, 2019, has relaxed the restrictive features for M2M connections and extends the timelines for making the existing Machine to Machine (M2M) connections complaint to the DoT’s M2M instructions.

The telecom industry vide its various joint representations, requested for relaxing the restrictive features for M2M connections and extension of timelines till September 30, 2019 for making the existing M2M connections complaint to the instructions dated May 16, 2018.

Therefore, the approval of competent authority for the following is as under:

(i) the restrictive features for M2M SIMs dated May 16, 2018 will be replaced as under:

(a) Outgoing or incoming calls will be allowed to maximum four numbers only;

(b) Likewise outgoing or incoming SMS will be allowed to ot from predefined set of maximum for members only;

(c) Data Communication will be allowed only on maximum four numbers of predefined Public IP addresses or URL with fixed Access Point Names (APNs) or equivalent technology options by Licensee;

(d) These restrictions are not applicable to calls made to emergency numbers like police, fire, ambulance etc.

(ii)The timeline for submitting the necessary compliance certificates to the concerned Licensed Spectrum Access (LSA) field units of DoT in respect of existing M2M connections is further extended till September 30, 2019.

It is also clarified that modified restrictive features are also applicable on M2M connections issued after May 16, 2018.

The other detailed instructions issued vide letter dated May 16, 2018 will remain unchanged.
