FSSAI issues direction regarding compliance of FSS (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Second Amendment Regulations, 2018

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on March 29, 2019 with the approval of the Competent Authority issues direction under Section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding compliance of FSS (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Second Amendment Regulations, 2018 as notified on July 20, 2018. Various stakeholders are finding technical issues in complying with certain specific provisions. With this regard, following decisions have been made:

•Sub-Regulation 2.3.2 (2) of the Regulation and the tolerance limit of 43 antibiotics and veterinary drugs for the food mentioned in Sub-Regulation 2.3.2 (4) listed in Annexure-1 shall be enforced from April 01, 2019.

•Compliance for other antibiotics and veterinary drugs is extended till further order.

•The Authority will continue working on the Regulation in respect of the remaining antibiotic or veterinary drugs for their possible deletion or changes in tolerance limits.
