Draft Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) First Amendment Regulations, 2019

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published a draft of Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) First Amendment, 2019 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018.

The Draft Regulations is published to inform all the persons likely to be affected thereby and notice is given that the draft regulations shall be taken into consideration after the expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Official Gazette in which the Notification is published are made available to the public that is March 15, 2019.

Some of the major amendments in the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, are as under:

•Under Regulation 7 which specifies conditions for Health claims, after sub-regulation (2), the following sub-regulation shall be inserted, namely:

Sub-regulation (2a): Claims including nutrient function claims for edible vegetable oils may be made as provided in Schedule – VI;

•After schedule –V, the following Schedule shall be inserted, namely:

Schedule – VI: List of Claims for Edible Vegetable Oils
