FSSAI publishes Draft FSS(Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on December 24, 2018 has published Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 and for the information of all persons likely to be affected thereby.

Notice has been given that the said draft regulations shall be taken into consideration after the expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Official Gazette in which this notification is published are made available to the public.

Objections and suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, FSSAI, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi- 110002 or sent on email at [email protected]. Objections and suggestions, which may be received from any person with respect to the said draft regulations before the expiry of period so specified, shall be considered by FSSAI.

Some of the major amendments in the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018 are as under:

In regulation 2.5, in sub-regulation 2.5.2 related to Meat and Meat Products:

·         Clauses 1 to 6 shall be substituted

·         After Clause 11, the following clause shall be inserted, namely:

a.       12 - Marinated Meat Products

b.      13 - Fermented Meat Product
