Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Tenth Amendment Regulations, 2018

The Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI), on November 08, 2018, has published the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Tenth Amendment Regulations, 2018.

The Regulations have been finalized after taking into consideration the objections and suggestions received from the public in respect of the two draft regulations published by the Central Government.

In the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011:

(I)                 in regulation 3.1 relating to “FOOD ADDITIVES”, in sub-regulations 3.1.1, in clause (6), the following shall be inserted at the end, namely :-

“Unless otherwise specified, maximum use levels for additives in Tables are set on the final product as consumed.”.

(II)               in Appendix A, amendments have been made under the heading:

(1)    “I. FOOD CATEGORY SYSTEM”,

(2)    “II. FOOD CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS”,

(3)    “IV. USE OF FOOD ADDITIVES IN FOOD PRODUCTS”,

(III)             in ANNEXURE-1, in column (1), under the heading group name, after the group name “ETHYLENE DIAMINE TETRA ACETATES” and the entries relating thereto, the  group name “SORBITAN ESTERS OF FATTY ACIDS” shall be inserted.
