Continuing Dental Education Regulations, 2018

The Dental Council of India (DCI), on September 05, 2018, has made the Continuing Dental Education Regulations, 2018 in supersession of the PrincipalContinuing Dental Education Regulations, 2007”.

The Regulation’s core objective is to enhance the skill and attitude of dentists for the betterment of patient care and professionalism thus it should preferably be held in academic environment, convenient to the participants in terms of timings, fee etc.

These Regulations gives provisions for the following:

1.       Logistics and management of Implementation of CDE programs. “CDE” means, any activity in terms of lecture, demonstration, hands-on experience, training for dental professionals and para-dental staff resulting in imparting, improvement, enhancement, accentuate and advanced knowledge affecting knowledge, skill and attitude of dental professionals for the betterment of patient care and professionalism.

4.       Implementation of a point system for continuing dental education,

5.       Award of CDE points,

6.       Exemptions from the applicability of these Regulations,

7.       Accreditation of National & International Speakers (Speakers Bank)

8.       System of assessment of CDE credit points

9.       Role of Dental Colleges as CDE providers

10.   Distance mode / Online mode of Continuing Dental Education

11.   Certification for those who complete certain number of hours in a particular year

12.   CDE Certification guidelines for State Dental Councils and Institutions

13.   Self Assessment Forms for CDE points

14.   Appreciation from State Dental Council

They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette that is on September 18, 2018.
