Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Second Amendment Regulation related to Tolerance Limit of Antibiotics and Pharmacology Active Substances

The draft of certain regulations to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, was published on November 07, 2017 in the Gazette of India, inviting objections or suggestions from the persons likely to be affected before the expiry of the period of 30 days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette containing the said notification were made available to the public.

The objections and suggestions received from the public in respect of the said draft regulations have been considered by the Food safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Authority has now made the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Second Amendment Regulations, 2018 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011.

In the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, in regulation 2.3 relating to “Residues”, in sub-regulation 2.3.2,

·         in clause (2), the provisions related to prohibited antibiotics and veterinary drugs is amended.

·         after clause (3), the clause giving the table giving tolerance limit for antibiotics and veterinary drugs is inserted.
