FSSAI invites Comments and Suggestions on Artificial Ripening of Fruits

A provision relating to artificial ripening of fruits by use of Ethylene gas at a concentration up to 100 ppm or ug/L (0.01%) depending upon the crop, variety and maturity was notified on August 23, 2016 under Food Safety and Standards (Prohibitions and Restrictions) Regulations, 2011.

Several issues have been raised by various stakeholders relating to modalities of use of Ethylene gas for artificial ripening of fruits. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has constituted a Working Group which is working on developing a Standard Operating Procedure detailing the modalities etc. for use of Ethylene gas in artificial ripening of Fruits.

Stakeholders are requested to provide their inputs/suggestions/comments, if any, on the aspects to be covered in the Standard Operating Procedure. The inputs/suggestions/comments may be sent to Advisor (Standards) on the email id: [email protected] or at Food Safety & Standards Authority of India, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi-110002 before March 31, 2018.
