DIPP notifies the Gas Cylinders (Amendment) Rules, 2018

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) vide notification dated February 27, 2018 has notified the Gas Cylinders (Amendment) Rules, 2018 amending the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016. Vide this amendment-

In Rule 2:

·       New clause (ia) shall be inserted which reads as:

“Auto LNG” means a liquefied natural gas meant for automotive fuel.

·       Clause (xxviii) shall be substituted which reads as:

“gas cylinder” or “cylinder” means any closed metal container having a volume exceeding 500 ml but not exceeding 1000 liters intended for the storage and transport of compressed gas, including any liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) container or liquefied natural gas (LNG) container or compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder fitted to a motor vehicle as its fuel tank but not including any other such container fitted to a special transport or undercarriage and includes a composite cylinder and cryogenic container, however, the water capacity of cylinder used for storage of CNG, nitrogen or compressed air may exceed 1000 liters up to 3000 liters provided the diameter of such cylinder does not exceed 60 cm;’;

·       New clause (xxxviii-a) shall be inserted which reads as:

liquefied natural gas means a fluid in the cryogenic liquid state composed predominantly of methane.
